Answers

Q. Please tell me about the teachers. What are their credentials?
A. We have a varied roster of teachers. Please click here to view teacher biographies

Q. Are there Minimum Age Requirements for students?
A. Most of our teachers have age requirements to start lessons:
piano: age 4
guitar: age 8
voice: age 10

Q. Could you send me information on lesson times?
A. Lesson schedules are determined by the teacher. Please fill out and submit the Request Information form for more information regarding teachers in your area.

Q. What is the price for lessons?
A. All our teachers are different rates, because we have teachers with different levels of experience and background.  However, you can expect that our teachers' rates are higher than teachers teaching out of home-based studios to cover travel expenses.

Q. Is there a discount for multiple students at one location?
A. Although we do have discounts for paying in advance, we do not have discounts for multiple students. Our teachers try to schedule routes so that all the students who are in the same neighborhood receive their lessons on the same day. If you have more than one student it is more likely that a teacher can be sent to your home even if you are not on a current MMI route.

Q. Do I need a piano to start piano lessons?
A. It is mandatory that you have a piano or keyboard to start, as the teachers are not able to carry one to each lesson. A piano/keyboard is required for practice.

Q. What is your policy on missed lessons?
A. We have two different tuition contracts with two different options.
  • Our regular contract offers a lower per lesson rate, which does not change over the tuition year. There is no make up or refund for lessons missed by the client under this arrangement. Lessons missed by the teacher are not charged to the client.
  • Our a la carte contract is a higher per lesson rate which can increase during the year. A lesson may be rescheduled if the client gives the teacher 48 hours advance notice that the lesson will be missed. If the teacher can not accommodate the reschedule, the client is not charged for the missed lesson.

Q. What do my tuition fees cover?
A. Your tuition covers not only the lesson time in the teacher's schedule, but priority in scheduling each new term. Your fees cover also the office administration of your account, (advertising, billing etc), an annual recital opportunity and the phone or email consultations you may require with Ms. Bock prior to your selecting a teacher. In addition, from time to time during your association with MMI other phone/email consultations may be necessary to review your student’s progress and Ms. Bock is available to address your concerns at these times as a benefit of your tuition fees.

Q. What is the vacation policy?
A. September through the end of May see your contract (a la carte or regular)
During the summer months of June, July and August we ask the teachers to schedule all lessons by mutual convenience to allow for traditional vacations. In this way we try to accommodate the majority of our students vacations while assuring the teacher a chance to touch base with students over the summer. (very important in order to keep up skills)

Q. May I interview a teacher first?
A. It depends on the teacher. Some require an interview before accepting students. Some of our teachers do not; however, they will give a trial lesson provided they can work out a convenient time with you.  Any time a teacher does have the opportunity to work in an interview or trial lesson, there is a fee and it does not guarantee that the teacher will accept the student.

Q. What is the contract cancellation policy?
A. For both the regular and a la carte contracts, as long as you give the office one month's written notice, we will refund any overpayment or deposits remaining on your account. For special circumstances, please speak directly with Ms. Bock.

Q. How do I find out if you have a teacher for me?
A. The best way is to fill out and submit the Request Information form for information regarding teachers in your area. The Teacher Biographies page has more information about each of our teachers. You may also leave a message at 703-293-2693. Office hours vary, but generally you will catch someone in between 10:00AM EST and 12:00PM EST.
